Seminal figure of the Surrealist Movement and mentor of various exponents of Abstract Expressionism, Roberto Matta (1911-2002) is one of the most interesting artists of 20th century, with his production between art and design.

In the mid-’60s, he started a collaboration with Dino Gavina that led to the creation of iconic design pieces such as Malitte (1966) and for the Ultramobile collection (1971) Margarita, Sacco Alato and MAgriTTA.

Paradisoterrestre Exhibition - Roberto Matta

Since 2019 Paradisoterrestre has been steadily collaborating with Alisée Matta in the re-editions of iconic design pieces designed between the 60s and 70s by her father, legendary surrealist artist Roberto Matta for Dino Gavina, historic founder of the brand. After the success of the participation in Arte Fiera 2023 with a monographic booth dedicated to the artist, Paradisoterrestre takes part in the exhibition curated by The Design Blender and Alisée Matta where re-editions of the functional works of art Margarita and Sacco Alato and of Malitte seating system dialogue with prototypes and historical pieces coming directly from Matta Archives.

Nestled in the industrious Milan, not far from the Navigli area, Rodolfo Ferrari in 1947 set up SPA pharmaceutical laboratory to produce antibiotics and especially penicillin for Italy. In the following decades production had been outsourced to third parties and only the main building remained the headquarter of this prestigious health actor on the Italian market. Starting from 2021 the other four previously dismissed buildings have been brought back to life thanks to Alisée Matta, Rodolfo Ferrari’s granddaughter. Bound by a long friendship with Elsa Lemarignier and François Leblanc di Cicilia, Alisée Matta entrusts them with the task to integrate art and design into these renovated spaces, choosing Salone del Mobile as starting point for a cycle of presentations and projects where manufacturing excellence, renowned and promising designers are invited to show their best contemporary creations.
